Daily Bible Study From 2 Timothy 3:1-9

What's Wrong With the World? (2 Timothy 3:1-9)

A grandmother throws her hands into the air and exclaims, “What’s wrong with the world?” This grandmother can see that the world is changing dramatically; however, she doesn’t really understand why it is changing. Moreover, she is frightened by the future not only for herself but also for her children and grandchildren.

Many people are feeling the tensions of a changing world and are wondering, “What’s wrong?” Well, the Bible says, “You can be certain that in the last days there will be some very hard times. People will love only themselves and money. They will be proud, stuck-up, rude, and disobedient to their parents. They will also be ungrateful, godless, heartless, and hateful. Their words will be cruel, and they will have no self-control or pity. These people will hate everything that is good. They will be sneaky, reckless, and puffed up with pride. Instead of loving God, they will love pleasure” (2 Timothy 3:1-4).

The Bible tells us that the world is changing dramatically because men and women love self more than God. In fact, when we love self more than God, we usually reject God and His values. And this is happening all over the world today. We have banished God and His values to the lunatic fringe and we are reaping the consequences—moral decay and truth decay.

Is there hope for us? Yes there is. However, it requires a turning from self to God. God calls this repentance (See Mark 1:15). When we turn from self to God, Jesus changes us and helps us understand the world we live in.
