Encouraging Others To Faithful Service (2 Timothy 2:8-13)

William Arthur Ward wrote, “Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you.” We all need love and encouragement. Even as Christians we need love and encouragement. Timothy needed love and encouragement so that he could faithfully serve God in the ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Sometimes, when someone is struggling, it is easy to be critical. It is easy to put them down. We’ve all been there. However, the apostle Paul would not have a bar of that with Timothy. He wanted to encourage Timothy to faithful service for Jesus Christ. What a challenge for us as Christians to be encouragers! To help people faithfully serve Jesus Christ! What do you do when you see someone struggling in the faith, do you take steps to encourage them?

Paul encouraged Timothy by asking him to remember Jesus, the gospel, and God’s promises. You know, when we reflect upon what God has done for us through Jesus Christ, we will be encouraged to serve God faithfully. As God said, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10). Will you take some time today and reflect upon what Jesus had done for you?
